This is narration of an incident related to the Hindi song “Tareef Karoon Kya Uski” which involved three great personalities of Hindi cinema – Maestro Singer Mohd Rafi, Music Composer O.P. Nayyar and Actor Shammi Kapoor.

While we all know Mohd Rafi’s singing prowess, not many know how he brought all the contributors of the song together to give us his super-hits. Once while recording “Tareef Karoon Kya Uski” (the super hit from Kashmir Ki Kali), Shammi Kapoor, who was present at the recording, did not like the ending of the recorded version. He asked the music director O.P. Nayyar, to quicken the pace of the song at the end. O.P. Nayyar did not agree to his request. Mohd Rafi saw Shammi Kapoor sulking and when he asked Shammi Kapoor for the reason, he narrated the incident. Mohd Rafi told O.P. Nayyar that Shammi Kapoor has a good vision of the ending of the song in his mind, so why not try out his requested change. O.P. Nayyar agreed with Mohd Rafi and re-recorded the song. The song became a super-hit, and Rafi went on to get Filmfare’s Best Male Singer Award in 1964.
