The male stars covered in this section started their careers in the 1980s and beyond, and most are still active in the industry today.
Those who made their debut in the 1980s were Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol. In the 1990s, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan started their Bollywood careers. By the mid-1990s, nearly a half-century after the original ‘Big 3’, there was a new triumvirate in Bollywood, all named Khan: Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh. It is interesting to note that these three Khans are still at the top of their game, nearly 30 years later!
Starting in the 200s, some new kids on the block entered the game: Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Irrfan Khan. The first two were the sons of star parents, while the third (Irrfan) had actually made his debut in the 1980s but had struggled to gain a foothold since then. Irrfan’s career started to blossom in the 2000s and 2010s but was tragically cut short by his untimely death in 2020.
