This is a list of notable Hindi songs from my favorite albums of the 1980s (with GEMs highlighted). Note that the list is sortable by each column. (Multiple levels of sorting are possible by sorting more than one column in succession, from lowest to highest.)
As with all selections on this website, choosing the best Hindi-song albums is a highly subjective exercise. However, I tried to apply some objective criteria to the selections: the album should have 5+ notable songs with 2+ GEMs or 6+ notable songs with at least 1 GEM. Beyond these minimum criteria, it was of course my personal preferences which guided the selections. I’m pretty sure you will find many of your own favorites on the list!
As noted elsewhere in this section, the 1980s were a “lost decade” for Hindi film music, and the quality of Hindi songs declined sharply from the previous decade. Thus, there are only 6 albums from the 1980s that made the list. In alphabetical order, they are: Kudrat, Maine Pyar Kiya, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Qurbani, Silsila and Umrao Jaan.
