The Superboy Comics of the Silver Age were generally of high quality and had their own charm, since they were set in the small town of Smallville where Superman grew up.  The stories featured his life with parents Jonathan and Martha Kent, his first love Lana Lang, and other interesting characters like Pete Ross (who discovered his secret identity), Police Chief Parker and the Kryptonite Kid.  The Superboy title also gave the writers the opportunity to present some ‘untold stories’ about Superman’s childhood, such as how he learned to fly.  Many new ideas of the Silver Age were first introduced in Superboy stories (including those in Adventure Comics), such as Bizarro, the Phantom Zone, Kryptonite-proof lead suit, the Kryptonian villain Jax-Ur, and the origin of Luthor’s enmity with Superman.  The primary Superboy artist for most of the Silver Age was George Papp, who gave Superboy his signature look and continued drawing him until the late sixties.
