The Hulk has had a long and storied publication history, starting with his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #1 in 1962. The character, created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, was originally depicted as a gray-skinned monster who transformed into the Hulk when scientist Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation.  However, the Hulk was changed to his iconic green color from the second issue onwards.  The original Incredible Hulk title (v1) was canceled in 1963 after only six issues, but the following year the Hulk became one of two features in Tales to Astonish.  Beginning with issue #102, the comic was retitled The Incredible Hulk (v2).

Over the years, many notable writers and artists have contributed to the Hulk’s storyline, often introducing various notable characters in the process.  For instance, Len Wein and Herb Trimpe are credited with creating the iconic Wolverine in a 1974 issue of The Incredible Hulk.  Over the years, various other writers and artists such as Peter David, Bill Mantlo, John Byrne, John Romita Jr., Greg Pak and Jeph Loeb have left their mark on the Hulk.

Many annuals and graphic novels featuring the Hulk have been published.  The series has been rebooted several times, and the Hulk has been a part of many major Marvel Comics teams such as the Avengers as well as many crossover storylines.  The character has also been adapted into various forms of media, including films, TV shows and video games, making him one of Marvel’s most enduring and recognizable characters.
