Little Dot was created by Alfred Harvey and Vic Herman and first published as a supporting feature in Sad Sack Comics in 1949.  At the time, she was referred to as “Li’l Dot”.  In 1953, she was given her own self-titled Harvey series which lasted for nearly 25 years, until 1976.  The character is known for her obsession with dots and is often depicted wearing polka-dotted clothing.  Little Dot’s stories often center around her collection of dots, which she sees everywhere and tries to collect in any way she can.  The principal artist for Little Dot from the very first issue was Steve Muffatti; another notable artist who contributed to the character for over 20 years was the legendary Harvey artist Warren Kremer.

Supporting characters in the Little Dot comics include her parents as well as a long array of uncles and aunts, each with a special quirk or eccentricity.  Little Lotta, the other well-known female character from Harvey, often appeared in Little Dot stories, and vice versa.  Interestingly, both Little Lotta and the most popular Harvey character Richie Rich made their debut as backup features in the first Little Dot issue.  Spin-off comics from the main Little Dot series included Little Dot’s Uncles & Aunts and Little Dot: Dotland.  Little Dot’s unique personality and love for dots have made her a beloved character in popular culture and a favorite of comic book readers of all ages.  A cover gallery of Little Dot comics can be found here.
