This is a selection of Detective Comics from the Silver Age Part 1: 1954-1964 (with GEMs highlighted).  The list includes links for the following: (a) Wiki page (from the Grand Comics Database, or GCD), (b) e-book (available upon request), and (c) More info on each comic (via optional posts by various contributors).

Please note that the list is sortable by each column. (Multiple levels of sorting are possible by sorting more than one column in succession, from lowest to highest.)  You can also do an instant filtering of the table by entering a character string in the ‘Search’ field.

During the first part of the Silver Age, most issues of Detective Comics had multiple features: a Batman story followed by one or two stories of other characters.  These backup stories helped to launch many other characters such as the Martian Manhunter who became popular in his own right and was a founding member of the the Justice League of America.  (These stories can be found in the Other DC Super-Heroes section of this website.)

During this period, most Batman stories were drawn by Sheldon Moldoff, though he never received credit because he was a ghost-artist for Bob Kane, who always made it a point to sign all the stories.  However, the comics world has retroactively attributed these stories to the real artist, and I have done so on my lists as well.  The predominant scripter of Batman stories during this period was the indefatigable Bill Finger, continuing his yeoman’s work on Batman which had had started in the Golden Age.
