Introduced in 1950 (as ‘Archie’s Rival Reggie‘) and published sporadically until the early 1960s (when it was re-introduced as ‘Reggie‘), the comic Reggie and Me focused on the obnoxious and malicious Reggie Mantle. Reggie and Me delved into Reggie’s scheming nature, his ongoing attempts to one-up Archie, and his interactions with other students at Riverdale High School. In addition to the usual Archie gang, characters like Mr. Weatherbee, Moose, Midge and Dilton Doiley further enriched the stories, providing additional dynamics and relationships for Reggie to navigate. The presence of these supporting characters allowed for entertaining and unpredictable storylines, showcasing Reggie’s interactions with the diverse Archie cast and highlighting his role as the resident troublemaker of Riverdale.
Throughout its publication history, Reggie and Me has seen contributions from notable comic creators. Artists like Harry Lucey and Bill Vigoda and artist-writer Al Hartley brought Reggie’s character to life with their dynamic and expressive artwork. Their illustrations captured Reggie’s confident and suave demeanor, as well as his signature smirk, making him instantly recognizable. Writers such as Frank Doyle and George Gladir crafted entertaining storylines that showcased Reggie’s schemes and his humorous clashes with other characters, providing readers with a delightful blend of comedy and rivalry.
