This is a selection of short stories written by W. Somerset Maugham (with GEMs highlighted). Maugham was a superb writer of short stories, in the same league as other masters of the genre like Guy de Maupassant and O. Henry. However, unlike the latter authors, Maugham was also a master of novels and plays: his works in these categories are each listed in a separate section. Collectively, Maugham’s novels, short stories and plays constitute an amazing body of work spanning a period of over 50 years.
