Kid Colt is the longest-running cowboy star in American comic-book publishing, featured in stories over a 31-year stretch from 1948 to 1979, though from 1966 onwards most of the published stories were reprints.  He made his debut in Kid Colt #1 published in 1948 under the Leading Comics brand, which transitioned to Marvel Comics shortly thereafter.  Stan Lee, the iconic co-creator of many Marvel characters, played a significant role in the early development of Kid Colt, helping to establish his mythos and develop his compelling stories that have enthralled fans of Western stories for a long time.

Throughout the publication history of Kid Colt, numerous writers and artists have left their mark on the series. Notable contributors in the early days of Kid Colt include writers Ernie Hart, Leon Lazarus and Joe Gill, as well as artists Russ Heath, Pete Tumlinson and Jack Keller.  Besides Stan Lee, another legend of the comics world Jack Kirby also worked on Kid Colt, drawing many superlative covers starting in the late 1950s.  Other talented writers and artists who later added to the character’s legacy include Larry Lieber and Herb Trimpe.  The collaborative efforts of these notable writers and artists have cemented Kid Colt’s place as a memorable and enduring character in the Marvel Comics pantheon.
