Laugh Comics (later shortened to simply Laugh) debuted in 1946 as an anthology of humorous illustrated stories. In many ways, it was similar to Pep Comics, though the latter originally contained an assortment of comedy and super-hero stories and became an all-humor comic only in 1948, two years after Laugh started. The main characters in Laugh were, of course, Archie and the gang, though several other characters were also featured. Most notable among these was Li’l Jinx, a mischievous and spunky young girl who has humorous misadventures with her neighborhood friends. The Li’l Jinx stories often highlighted the challenges and joys of childhood and provided a delightful contrast to the teenage escapades of Archie and his friends.
Many prominent comic-book creators contributed to the success of Laugh over the years. Artists like Dan DeCarlo, Bill Vigoda. Harry Lucey and Stan Goldberg brought their distinctive styles to the comic, capturing the vibrant and lighthearted essence of the Archie universe. Writers such as Frank Doyle and George Gladir crafted entertaining and witty narratives that emphasized the comedic exploits of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and the rest of the gang.
