Archie Comic Publications’ flagship series Archie (called Archie Comics in its early years) has a rich and enduring publication history that spans several decades. The comic book series first debuted in 1941 and has remained a popular and iconic fixture in the world of American comics ever since. Over the years, Archie has seen contributions from various notable artists and writers who have left their mark on the series. Frank Doyle stands out as one of the key writers, known for his humor and ability to capture the essence of the Archie gang. Artists Harry Sahle, Harry Lucey and Dan DeCarlo made significant artistic contributions to the Archie lore, defining the iconic appearances of the characters and establishing the distinctive Archie art style that fans know and love.
In addition to the iconic threesome Archie, Betty and Veronica, the Archie series boasts an extensive cast of supporting characters who have become fan favorites. Jughead, Archie’s best friend known for his insatiable appetite, has been a mainstay in the series and had his own spin-off title. Other notable supporting characters include Reggie, the snarky rival for Veronica’s affections, Archie’s parents Mary and Fred Andrews and Veronica’s father Mr. Lodge. These characters and many others have contributed to the enduring popularity and longevity of the Archie series. A cover gallery of Archie Comics can be found here.
