Yogi Bear is a beloved animated character created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1958. The character quickly gained popularity and became the subject of a comic book series published by Dell Comics. The series featured Yogi and his sidekick Boo Boo getting into various comical situations in Jellystone Park. In 1962, the Yogi Bear comics license was acquired by Gold Key Comics, which continued to publish the series until 1970.
The Yogi Bear comic books were primarily illustrated by Harvey Eisenberg but there were a few other artists as well, such as Kay Wright and Ralph Heimdahl. Supporting characters in the original Dell stories included Ranger Smith and Cindy Bear. The Gold Key series maintained the same humorous tone as the Dell series and also introduced new supporting characters like Yakky Doodle and Chopper the helicopter.
The Yogi Bear comics were successful in capturing the charm and humor of the animated series and have remained popular among fans of all ages. The character has also appeared in numerous other media, including comic strips, video games, and merchandise. Today, Yogi Bear remains an iconic character and a testament to the enduring popularity of classic animated cartoons. A cover gallery of Yogi Bear comics can be found here.
