This is a selection of Marvel comicsfeaturing the X-Men (with GEMs highlighted). The list includes links for the following: (a) Wiki page (from the Grand Comics Database, or GCD), (b) e-book (available upon request), and (c) More info on each comic (via optional posts by various contributors). [Note: In some cases where there is a set of consecutive issues listed as one entry, the Wiki link takes you to the first issue in the set, and the ‘Next Issue’ link will take you to the later issues.]
Please note that the list is sortable by each column. (Multiple levels of sorting are possible by sorting more than one column in succession, from lowest to highest.) You can also do an instant filtering of the table by entering a character string in the ‘Search’ field.
The X-Men are a group of mutants who first appeared in X-Men #1 in 1963, created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. They are led by their founder Charles Xavier (Professor X), a powerful telepath who runs a school for mutant children which secretly is also the headquarters of the X-Men. The X-Men stories have frequently involved Magneto, a powerful mutant with control over magnetic fields who is alternately a friend and foe to Professor X. In addition to Magneto, the X-Men have faced off against a wide variety of memorable villains such as the Juggernaut, Mr. Sinister and the Sentinels. The X-Men have been a popular and influential part of Marvel Comics’ repertoire, with a publication history spanning over 50 years.
One of the most notable publication periods for the X-Men was the Chris Claremont era, which began in the late 1970s and lasted until the early 1990s. Claremont’s run on X-Men is often considered one of the best and most influential in comics history, and he introduced many of the most popular and enduring X-Men characters, such as Wolverine, Storm, and Rogue. During this time, Claremont was also responsible for some of the most memorable X-Men storylines, such as The Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past.
In the years since Claremont’s departure, many other writers and artists have contributed to the X-Men’s ongoing adventures. These creators continued to introduce new concepts and a more modern tone to the X-Men mythos. Throughout their history, the X-Men have been a reflection of the social and political issues of the times, and hence they have remained one of Marvel’s most popular franchises. The enduring popularity of the X-Men has led to many successful Hollywood movies, including a separate series featuring Wolverine, arguably the most famous of the X-Men.
