This is a list of notable Hindi movies directed by Shyam Benegal (with GEMs highlighted). Note that the list is sortable by each column. (Multiple levels of sorting are possible by sorting more than one column in succession, from lowest to highest.)
Shyam Benegal pioneered the “new wave” of Indian movies in the 1970, which started a trend of parallel cinema in the Hindi film industry which has lasted until this day.
Some of the movies are available for free viewing on YouTube, and a link is provided below in the “Video” column. In other cases, the link may indicate that the movie is available to Netflix or Amazon Prime subscribers or for a nominal fee on YouTube. Quite a few of these movies are also available for checkout at public libraries.
